From the preface: The main purpose of the trip undertaken by me in south America in 1938 - 39 was to make archaeological investigations in the highlands of Bolivia. Of especial interest to me were the so-called Chullpa graves. For reasons revealed in the following, however, these investigations embraced other relics as well in the Bolivian highlands. The result of these investigations is presented in the work presented here.
